Headed Outside This Winter? Remember Winter Sports Safety

sledding

As we head into winter with snow, it is a good time to remember now how important it is to wear head gear/helmets when sledding.  We at Jefferson Pediatrics have experienced the pain of seeing patients in sledding-related accidents.  Trees and rocks don’t move as we come hurdling down the side of a hill on a poorly controlled sled or tray. Always anticipate where your path will take you as you accelerate.  It is absolutely imperative to make sure you do not cross a road on your way down the hill.

Always be safe! Remember to bundle up. Providing warm gloves and extra layers of clothing for children helps prevent frostbite on fingers and toes. By adding extra layers of clothing, it is easy to remove them and put them in a dry place if anyone becomes to warm.
